Community Cats
Every week, Angels for Animals gets 15-20 cats sterilized. We at AFA follow the trap neuter release model.
Every Monday, our team sets out to “trap” cats. Animal lovers, community feeders and also communities who can’t monetarily afford neutering their cats reach out to us with cats who need to be neutered. Our team reached these places at feeding times to humanely trap the cats in proper carriers, and brings them to our cattery. Very often, the people who reach out to us don’t have carriers or baskets of their own. We have a system in place where all the carriers are disinfected before every round of sterilization, and we trap the cats in properly labelled carriers for their time with us.
The cats are kept overnight at our cattery, fasting for surgery. We work with AWBI recognised NGOs for the sterilization surgery. After the sterilization surgery on Tuesday, they are kept in our cattery for post op care. This involves medication, giving them nutritious food, and monitoring their health till they fully recover. After they recover, they are released back in their territories. We systematically keep track of every cat who comes to us, to ensure they are released in their original territory.
All of this is a full week of work. Around the time we are releasing the last of the cats we get neutered, it’s time to trap again :)
It costs us Rs 1500 per cat, which includes surgery, transportation, food and medication. When you donate to Angels for Animals, you empower us to continue these efforts to help the dogs of Goa. Please consider supporting our work!
