What To Do When You See An Injured Animal

Author: Alpha Angels Animal Trust |

Since our roads become more and more busy, sadly, witnessing animals injured due to accidents is a regular sight to. When you see an injured animal on the road, the most important rule is: Please don’t look away! It is in extreme scenarios like this where animals need most of our help.

Instead, follow this 5-step-process:

  • Step 1: Secure the animal from ongoing traffic. If the animal is badly hurt, too heavy, or there is a risk it will bite you, don’t touch it but ensure that traffic is kept away. If possible, carefully move the animal to a safer space near the roadside.
  • Step 2: Take pictures and videos, and get a clear idea of where the injury lies, how serious it is (e.g. broken bone versus massive loss of blood), and how much the animal is movable.
  • Step 3: Post Pictures and a detailed description on animal welfare groups on social media FB Groups -> Those groups are usually very active and full of animal lovers, and there is a high chance someone is close by
  • Step 4: If necessary, call your local animal NGO or your mobile vet, and report the case. If you don’t have any number, please contact Alpha Angels (+91) 99301 43336).
  • Step 5: Wait until the NGO representative comes. Please don’t leave the animal alone! Talk to it calmly, and give drinking water if possible.
  • Step 6: Once the NGO representative or the vet reaches the scene, give your full contact details, and explain the situation and how you found the animal as precisely as possible. Often, the little details can make a huge difference.

If at any point, you are unsure what to do next, please contact us immediately!
